Teacher Review for Edublogs

A wonderful blogging tool for teachers & students

Submitted October 24, 2013

How I Use It

My students use it at a place to show off their big projects (e.g. their Documentary projects). We use them as a class portfolio and respository for projects. We then have set times for them to review and meaningfully comment on one another's work. This is also an excellent platform for students to have out of class discussions, and to share information with one another. I can posed a critical assessment question that they must answer or assign them to engage their classmates on a topic. The threaded conversation features allows them to respond to the topic itself or to one another. Right now, due to school policy, it is a closed forum. However, I would love to expand it to blog with other classes or even open up to the world so that we could have broader and more involved discussions with outsiders. Sometimes there is a learning curve for students, but overall its' been a great tool.

My Take

I love using edublogs as a place for students to share their knowledge with one another. It's easy to use and, because it uses the WordPress software, translates well to other platforms (for students who want to expand on blogging on their own). I also like that there are different level of restrictions that we can apply - we can make blogs private, for our organization, or for the public. Edublogs is an affordable option for a sophisticated blogging platform.
